Belief

In the last week I have met a lot of people. People I've never met before and conversations have led to stories of things we do not usually discuss when you first meet someone. But, in this week I noticed something very amusing. It was about belief and how we all need something or somebody to believe in. There are hardly any people who do not believe in anything of anybody !

Believing is having confidence in the truth, reliability and existence of something. It could be a person, thing, phenomenon. That belief somehow indirectly affects the way we live our lives. We can look up to it, blame it and use it as an excuse to do something. I find this really strange. I believe in a power that resides above us because I wonder how there are rivers and trees, how the sun shines, how did Adam & Eve come into the planet and what actually created the universe. Its the biggest question on my mind which leads me to believe that there is some power that effected in the observations that I make.

There are people who believe in God with his million names. They believe in him, and in a place called heaven where he apparently resides. They pray to him because they believe that praying to him has a calming effect on them. There are people who believe that bathing the lord, singing hymns, lighting candles, ringing bells will bring blessings and happiness to them and their families. They believe God is a talking, walking, living person who probably controls the world. They fear sinning because they feel god will punish them.

Then there are people who believe that when you commit a lot of sins you go to hell. Hell was conveniently made into a place for bad people.

There are another kind who believe in Astrology. It is a science/subject/bullshit that I have absolute hatred for. They tell you how long you will live, what boy to marry, what number plate on your car, what rooms in your house, how many children you will bear and how your business will run. There is Feng Shui and Vastu Shastra and Numerology and Tantrikism, There's white magic and black magic.

There are so many beliefs in the world. These beliefs are nothing but rules. They do not have any kind of proof. They are passed on from parents to children. They slowly become culture and art and history and heritage. But why do people have these beliefs? Its only because you need something to look up to  and to follow, its because we do not know the root of our existence and that is so important to mankind. It is to teach and educate and to blame when things go wrong. There are devotees who go to the temple and curse god when things go wrong. Beliefs are to thank someone when things go right. Men thank their astrologers to give them the right date which resulted in a successful business deal. Families change the Feng Shui of their house to reduce conflicts and blame conflicts to bad feng-shui.

Im too meek and too young and too uneducated to negate the supposed sciences and religions that believe in,

but I feel in all of these beliefs what one forgets in believing in oneself. They forget that they have to curse themselves at times and not god, that they have to give a pat on their back for the successful business deal and not the astrologer because maybe their hard-work paid off. They have to look at their laziness and demotivation for failure. Maybe cleansing their souls would give them the same calming effect that cleansing idols does. Changing the alphabets in their names must be important but changing oneself is also important because problems cannot be a subset of the alphabets in somebody's names. Relationships need to be valued more not the house's Feng-shui. Conflicts are caused not only because of bad Feng-shui but because of other factors like taking each other for granted. Hell isn't a place for bad people and Heaven isn't for good. If they are they're both on earth. One shouldn't be doing good because they fear being punished but because they are innately good. Being nice should come naturally not because of the fear of god. Humanity is the religion not cultures and places of worship.

We all need something to believe in, Why not start with ourself?
